‘Ladki’ is an Indo-Chinese project heading for a massive release in China

In more ways than one, Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Ladki’ (Hindi) is his most ambitious and most expensive film to date. Aptly titled ‘The Dragon Girl’ in Chinese, it is India’s first-ever martial arts movie featuring a female martial artist.

Headlined by the adept and stunningly fit Pooja Bhalekar, the film has been made as a sincere tribute to ‘Enter The Dragon’, which RGV considers the greatest martial arts movie ever. The renowned director has in the past made the super-hit ‘Sarkar’ as an acclaimed tribute to ‘Godfather’. With Pooja Bhalekar, he is seeking to repeat history.

The trailer of the film looks absolutely gripping and interesting, with the hard work put in by the lead actress as well as the technical team visible in every frame.

What makes the film a special crossover venture is that its Chinese version has been bankrolled on a prestigious scale by Jing Lilu and Wu Jing of Big People, a Chinese company. And the film will be distributed on a wide scale by China Film Group Corporation, a huge company in China. In China alone, the RGV directorial will be released in as many as 30 big cities. Across the entire country, it will adorn 20,000 screens in mainland China. What makes this Chinese release a force is that this is the first Indian film to have a grand release in China since the Galwan stand-off of 2020.

The film’s worldwide release will be a humongous one on December 10. Production house Artsee Media is planning to hold a scintillating promotional event at the world-famous Burj Khalifa in Dubai on November 27 to mark the 81st birth anniversary of Bruce Lee. A grand poster will be released on the occasion. On the same day, the Chinese version of ‘Ladki’ will premiere at the famous Foshan Kung Fu Film Festival.

Shot in Mumbai, Goa, and China in India, the film has music by Ravi Shankar and DSR. Malaharbhatt Joshi has cranked the camera, while Kamal Ramadugu and Prabhu Deva are the editor of the actioner. Madhukar Devara has done art direction.
