Among the latest films that released in theaters this week with good buzz, one is the interesting thriller film “Shambala” starring Aadi Sai Kumar. Let’s find out in this review whether the film lived up to expectations and whether Aadi got the hit he was hoping for.

Story:
It’s the 1980s, and a massive meteor suddenly falls in a small village called Shambala. Immediately after its arrival, some unexpected events begin to unfold in the village. One after another, people develop a bump on the back of their necks, which then ruptures, leading to their deaths. Vikram (Aadi), a government geoscientist and an atheist, who comes to investigate the meteor, gets caught up in the village’s problems. From there, how did the conflict between science and superstition unfold? What exactly happened to the village? Was the meteor’s effect due to science or superstition? Did the deaths in the village stop? Who is Devi (Archana Iyer), who is visible only to Aadi? What did Vikram do? To know the answers to these questions, you must watch this film.

Plus points;

The core point chosen by the director in this film is quite interesting. It can be said that this is another new attempt among the devotional and science-mixed subjects that have been coming out recently. The backstory narrated with Sai Kumar’s voiceover is also very interesting and seems to provide new information to the audience.

The way the devotional elements and current Vastu-related aspects are explained is quite decent. Although some situations in the second half become predictable after a point, the devotional moments that follow are impressive. The thrilling elements maintained in some scenes are also good.

Coming to the actors, Aadi Sai Kumar delivered a good performance. He deserves extra marks, especially for his script selection. His look was perfectly suited for the film, and he gave a good performance in the role of Vikram. Archana Iyer also got a good role alongside him. She impressed with her presence in the role of Devi. Madhunandan and Harsha Vardhan delivered decent performances, while Ravi Varma and Lakshman Meesala surprised with their performances. The other main cast members also performed well.

Technical aspects:
The production values in this film are decent. The film’s setup and production design are good. Sricharan Pakala’s score is good in the film. The sound design is neatly done. Praveen K Bangari’s cinematography is good. Shravan Katikaneni’s editing is also passable.

Coming to director Yugandhar Muni, his work in this film is good. Mainly, the core point he chose for the film is impressive. While some parts of the narrative built around this point are a bit routine, the other suspense and devotional moments are impressive. Apart from that, his work in this film is good.

Minus points:
The main problem with this film is the slight flaw in the narrative. Many of the scenes in both the first and second halves feel predictable. Therefore, after a certain point, the film doesn’t feel very interesting. The heroine and the deaths occurring in the village feel very much like a regular, formulaic approach.

It would have been better if the director had planned these aspects in a more innovative way. Additionally, more scenes depicting the conflict between science and superstition should have been included.

Verdict:
Overall, ‘Shambala’ can be described as a decent devotional and science-mixed thriller. The core concept chosen by the director is good, and some of the scenes based on it are also good. However, the track involving the village feels routine. Except for this, the film is impressive.
