Producer Chintapalli Rama Rao on ‘Viduthalai-2’: “This is a Story That Resonates with Telugu Audiences”

As Viduthalai-2, starring Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Vetrimaaran, gears up for its worldwide release on December 20, Telugu producer Chintapalli Rama Rao has shared his excitement about bringing this revolutionary tale to Telugu audiences. In an exclusive interview, he reveals the reasons behind acquiring the rights, the film’s connection to Telugu culture, and what audiences can expect.

Q: What inspired you to acquire the Telugu rights to Viduthalai-2?

Chintapalli Rama Rao: The story. It’s rare to come across a film that blends intense emotions, raw realism, and socio-political relevance in such a powerful way. Though it’s directed by a Tamil filmmaker, the story is deeply rooted in issues that resonate with Telugu audiences. After the success of Viduthalai-1, it was clear that this was a project worth investing in.

Q: How does this film connect with the Telugu audience?

Rama Rao: Viduthalai-2 isn’t just a Tamil film; it’s a universal story of resistance against oppression. The struggles, emotions, and triumphs showcased in the film are reflective of the challenges faced by people in the Telugu states as well. It’s as much a Telugu story as it is a Tamil one.

Q: Vijay Sethupathi is known for his versatile performances. How does he fit into this role?

Rama Rao: Vijay Sethupathi is exceptional. His portrayal of Perumal, a Naxalite leader, is both intense and emotional. The way he embodies the character’s sacrifices and commitment to his cause is nothing short of extraordinary. Telugu audiences will witness one of his finest performances in this film.

Q: What can you tell us about Ilaiyaraaja’s contribution to the film?

Rama Rao: Ilaiyaraaja’s music is the heartbeat of the film. His background score breathes life into every scene, amplifying the emotional depth and intensity. I can confidently say that his work in Viduthalai-2 is unforgettable.

Q: How does Viduthalai-2 compare to its predecessor?

Rama Rao: Viduthalai-1 laid the foundation by introducing the characters and setting up the premise. Viduthalai-2 takes it to the next level, diving into the core of the story with greater intensity and drama. Vijay Sethupathi’s performance in this film is on a completely different level.

Q: There’s talk of violence in the film. Has that raised any concerns?

Rama Rao: The film is based on real events, and the violence depicted is integral to the story. It’s not exaggerated or sensationalized. Instead, it’s portrayed realistically, aligning with the film’s raw and gritty tone.

Q: Is there a possibility of a Viduthalai-3?

Rama Rao: That entirely depends on Vetrimaaran’s vision. For now, the focus is on delivering an impactful sequel with Viduthalai-2.

Q: What are your upcoming projects?

Rama Rao: We are gearing up for the release of Sri Sri Rajavaru and are set to launch a new project titled Dream Girl. Apart from these, two other films are in advanced stages of planning and will go on floors soon.

Q: What’s your message to the audience ahead of the release?

Rama Rao: Viduthalai-2
