‘Minugurulu’ won multiple Nandi Awards and international awards
The 2014 film ‘Minugurulu’, starring Ashish Vidyarthi, Suhasini Maniratnam, Raghubir Yadav and Deepak Saroj, is directed by Ayodhyakumar Krishnamsetty. Marking the 10th anniversary of its release, the social problem film was recently screened in the US.
Upon its release, several film industry stalwarts came out in support of the film and encouraged it. Megastar Chiranjeevi, at that time, said that the film stays true to both artistic and commercial values. Legendary director Dasari Narayana Rao, ‘Pushpa’ maker Sukumar, classy filmmaker Sekhar Kammula, and Oscar-winning lyricist Chandrabose, among others, praised the film’s sensibilities.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishnamsetty said, “When the film was released in 2014, social media was not widely used. Had it been released today, social media users would have bombarded everyone with celebrity takes about the movie. This is a drama driven by research about the reality faced by underprivileged blind kids. Nothing shown in the film is an exaggeration.”
“At a time when movies’ shelf life doesn’t last even a few weeks, ‘Minugurulu’ has lived on for a decade,” another speaker said.
A guest who was present at the screening said that the film’s tenderness and treatment are compelling. “Whatever has been shown in the film is reality as it is. So many NGOs are trying to reach out to vision-impaired kids through philanthropy,” a guest added.
